SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR GREEN WEDGE!

Whitwick residents are being urged to attend and show placards to demonstrate their support for the retention of the ‘Green Wedge’ by attending the Local Plan Examination which is to be held at Heartwood Conferencing, Rotherly House, Coalville Business Park, off Jackson Street (former Palitoy site), Coalville, LE67 3NR. on Monday, 16 January 2017 starting at 2.00pm.

Lorraine Ellis, Interim Parish Clerk, said “Whitwick people have fought battle after battle to preserve the Green Wedge.  It’s been supported by the Parish Council, the District Council, the County Council, our local MP, at appeal by the Secretary of State and on judicial review by the High Court.

“Now the future of the Green Wedge is again up for consideration when an Inspector undertakes an examination of NWLDC’s new Local Plan.

“Local people should be in no doubt, the war has not been won and developers continue to circle.  We already have an appeal pending on an application off Hall Lane and a recent application awaiting decision to the rear of Thornborough Road.  The fear remains that Whitwick could become merged into a ‘greater Coalville’ urban sprawl so it’s vital to show our continued support for retention of the Green Wedge in the Local Plan.

“The importance of people power has been demonstrated in the past when inspectors have commented favourably on the number of ‘Save Our Green Wedge’ posters and placards on display.  Whitwick Action Group will be allowed to make the case for the Green Wedge at the examination so its time to get those placards out again to show your support.”
