FREE TREE SCHEME - NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL

The Free Tree Scheme is now open:

Last year the scheme exceeded all expectations with over 18,000 trees ordered by residents and community groups of North West Leicestershire.  The District Council this year are once again teaming up with The National Forest Company to make our district even greener.

The offer is available to each household and community organisation within the district and there are four trees to choose from.  We are encouraging community groups (environmental groups, allotment societies, wildlife groups etc) to contact us to tell us about their plans and if  they have a site where they could plant a larger number of trees.

All the trees are two years old and approximately 60-90cms (2 to 3 feet) high.

Trees available this year:

Holly (Ilex aquifolium)

Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea)

Field maple (Acer campestre)

Elder (Sambucus nigra)

The Hedge Fund

Are you a landowner, local group or local school and are looking to plant a new hedge?  The aim is to help plant up the National Forest and provide more hedgerow corridors to help link wildlife habitats.

We can provide up to 30 metres of native species hedging; this will be a hawthorn and hazel mix, with a field maple at 10m intervals.

All the trees are two years old and approximately 60-90cms (2 to 3 feet) high. They will be supplied together with a guidance sheet on how to plant and to look after them.
